Sad News from the neighbors

News from Extropia, one of the neighboring sims to Paquin.

"One of our Extropian Directors, Patrick Millard -- Formatting Heliosense -- was found dead this weekend. I am only just now hearing from mutual friends and artists...
"F-stop" was keenly interested in the arts. A gifted photographer himself. his interests in Extropia led him to become curator of our Turing Gallery, and to organize frequent dance parties at the Technohenge. He was merry, witty, and I count myself blessed to have known him.
We have all lost someone special."

Disease ID'd - Spinwheel Goes Into Quarantine

SPINWHEEL CITY - The disease that started with a few people coming down with fever has exploded in the city. Hundreds are now infected with the illness and the city has shut down its port and gone into quarantine.

Local medical authorities have established that the virus is the same one that has killed on Arraxes. The planetary government has asked for assistance from the Arraxen government in knowledge and and medicines to fight the illness.

Until further notice, no traffic, either from offworld or other parts of Paquin will be allowed in or out of Spinwheel. The government is also informing worlds who receive ships that are based in Spinwheel or pass through the port on their routes.

Mayor Tillery Woodhen is asking all Spinwheel residents to stay home until the crisis passes. The virus is passed easily both by air and touch. Security has been increase at hospitals to prevent panic by those afraid of being infected.

A few dozen people in Spinwheel's Shuttleside area have reported fevers with rash in the past few days. Medical officials are not familiar with the particular disease and are researching its cause.

U-Day Celebration in Spinwheel

Paquin Mercury

SPINWHEEL CITY (CNS) -- His Honor, Mayor Tillery Woodhen, stood on the steps of Spinwheel City Hall next to a silent and unsmiling Chief of Police this morning to read a prepared statement.

"Thanks to the unmatched dedication of our police force, equipped with the latest in crowd control technology developed by Linden Laboratories, a subsidiary of Blue Sun specializing in law enforcement, the inhabitants of our Spinwheel City are safer this Unification Day than they have ever been before.

"No one -- not the Acolytes, Companions, and Priestesses of the Guild, not the other citizens of the Alliance, not the gentlebeings of United Federation Starfleet, not our exotic neighbors from Extropia -- should hesitate to visit us and take part in our celebrations.

"I have instructed the Chief here to ensure that his force will not hesitate to bind by law and remove from the streets of our fair city any miscreants -- whatever the color of their coats.

"Paquin is a law-abiding member of the Union of Allied Planets and is proud to be the home of a group of men and women renowned for their skills in pleasant interco- -- er, conversation. We honor them and do our utmost to provide them with a tranquil home.

"Bless you all, and bless the Union of Allied Planets!"

------------ ((now the same message, OOC)) ------------
((Welcome to the Companions’ Guild Unification Day party! We want to take a moment to explain the ground rules for this event. They are likely different than some of the other Unification events and scenarios out there.))

Downtown Redevelopment Continues.

The redeveloped downtown Spinwheel City skyline.

Paquin Mercury

SPINWHEEL CITY - The redevelopment of Spinwheel is moving ahead with the construction of a new mall, new buildings for CNS Corp. and UAP sector offices and a remodeled hospital and government house.

The Spinwheel City Shopping Mall, at the south end of High Street, opened two weeks ago to a gala celebration. Along with streetlevel stores facing Theatre Street, there are two more levels of stores with a dance club on the top floor, offering views down Court Street to the port.
Directly across from the mall is the remodeled Kejara Hospital. And an expanded government house has been built covering the entire block just east of the central square. The courthouse, UAP Tower and CNS HQ have all been remodeled to allow for a more open feeling on High Street. The street itself has been widened to allow for better traffic flow through the commercial district. The tram will continue to keep its route through the area.

Field Trip To Extropia

By Deebrane String
Firefly Companions Guild

Hey heyya! Join me tomorrow, 6pm SLT, for a walking tour of Extropia Core -- prettier than Bellerophon, to my way of thinking. We'll end the tour with a special treat... bring swimsuits, or dress for the occasion! We'll meet at the dock in DakiniLand, and head over from there.

Paquin Bank Victim of Robbery

SPINWHEEL - Stunner fire rattled through Paquin this morning as the Paquin Planetary Bank was robbed by what was described as four heavily armed women.  Witnesses say they stormed in discharging weapons and demanded "everyone get on the f...ing floor this is a robbery"

One customer was not fast enough and was  shot in the leg. The group demanded the vault be opened and took 500,000 Alliance credits before exiting the bank and boarding an awaiting shuttle in a nearby park. Authorities have no accurate descriptions other than lots of tattoos, two members have red hair, another black.

Reputation states that the girls have been robbing banks in other systems and they are an efficient crew in making no errors and are challenging.
